NHL - The Greatest Sport of All

The NHL or National Hockey League is the most popular professional hockey league in the United States and Canada. The NHL currently consists of 30 teams of which 24 are located in the United States. In some regards the NHL is not only the best hockey league in North America it is also the highest professional hockey league across the world.

As expected the NHL follows pretty standard hockey guidelines. Other than Olympic hockey tournaments there are basically no other big hockey events that use a different rule set. The NHL even employs a slightly different size ice rink than Olympic tournaments; though some say the difference really doesn't have that much of an impact on the game. Traditional NHL games are based on the quantity of goals made in three periods; as is expected the winner is whichever team that has the most points at the end of regulation time.

The NHL is just like many other professional leagues in the way they pick a championship team. The NHL season consists of a playoff system each year which is used to determine the final champion. In the United States the NHL is determined to be one of the 4 top sports along with the NFL, MLB and NBA; in Canada however the NHL is most definitely the most viewed sports league.

Regardless of country differences the NHL has recently been struggling to draw the fans many companies hope for. The NHL's fan base has been declining in many places; causing a massive advertising and fan campaign in the last few years. The NHL has been successful in drawing some sort of a fan base in many areas; though many teams and venues still struggle. Overall the NHL is an unique and great league which does well regardless of the amount of fans.
